Regulations





Aims and Objectives of the Festival

The Sixth Tehran International Animation Festival will be held from March 1st-5th 2009 by the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children & Young Adults.
  • Providing an opportunity for artists to exchange ideas through gathering purposeful presentation of the animation works.
  • Discovering potentials and encouraging young animators to innovate and create.
  • Developing abilities through new techniques and perspectives.

The festival is categorized in four sections: Competition, non-competitive category , Special Screening and Panorama.

Competition Section:

Films (16&35mm), Betacam SP (Pal-NTSC), DVD or DV are accepted , on the following bases:
  • At most three episodes per series could be submitted.
  • All commissioned films such as educational, industrial and advertising works can be enter in this category.
  • Selection of the films is made by a council whose members are appointed by the festival committee.
  • None of those involved in the production of films who are also a member of the jury can enter their work in this Section of festival.
  • The festival committee can have one representative in sessions of the jury .This representative has no right to vote.

International Competition

The foreign films produced after January 2005 which have not participated at the previous editions of this festival can take part in this section .An international jury consisting of at least 5 members of artists and specialists will judge the entries .The head of the jury and the members selected by Festival committee will give the following awards to the winners:

  • Golden Prize for the best animation
  • Silver Prize for the second best animation
  • Bronze Prize for the third best animation
  • Golden Prize for the best animation dealing with the subject of children and young adults
  • Golden Prize for the best student animation
  • Golden Prize for the best TV production
  • Golden Prize for the best advertising animation
  • Special Prize of the jury
  • Special Prize of the festival director
  • Golden Prize for the best feature animation

In addition to the awards listed above the jury may offer at most three honorary diplomas to the other film or people involved in the production.

National Competition

The films produced after April 2005 which have not participated at the previous edition of this festival, can take part this section. A five-5member jury consisting of artists and animation experts will judge the film in this section and present the awards as follows:

  • Golden Prize for the best animation
  • Silver Prize for the second best animation
  • Bronze Prize for the third best animation
  • Golden Prize for the best feature animation
  • Golden Prize for the best animation dealing with the subject of children and young adults
  • Golden Prize for the best student animation
  • Golden Prize for the best TV production
  • Golden Prize for the best advertising animation
  • Silver Prize for the best experimental animation
  • Prize for the best animation script
  • Prize for the best animator
  • Prize for the best designer
  • Prize for the best sound
  • Special Prize of the jury
  • Special Prize of the festival director

In addition to the awards listed above, the jury may offer at most three honorary diplomas to the other films people involved in the production.

Non-competitive category

All the films in this category are in the same level of those presented in the competition section however,they will be shown in this section for following reasons.
  • Not complying with rules& regulation of the competition section.
  • Being member of the jury.
  • Completion of number of films in competition section.
  • By the request of film-maker for showing the film in this section.

Special Screening

This section on a non-competitive bases is meant to pave the way for an effective exchange of experience and viewpoints of the artists and to provide an stand for comparing Iranians work with those produced in other countries .A selection of the most outstanding animation from other international festival and retrospective of the work of a special style are the main subjects of this section.

Panorama

The Screening of films in this section will focus mainly on educational informative aspects of domestic production on a non-competitive bases .Topics like introducing new artists with promising futures and role of animation in advertisement and retrospective of a film-maker will be given attention in this section.

General Rules

  • VHS copies are accepted but not recommended.
  • There is no limitation of entries for individuals, organization and institutes.
  • There is no restriction of winning a prize from this festival for films already awarded in other festival
  • No single award would be given to two or more entries together.
  • There is no entry fee for participation.
  • The festival office will announce the results of the selection in December 20th
  • It is the duty of the Festival Office to determine the screening schedule .After the entrance of a film, no request for the withdrawal will be accepted.
  • All the expenses in regard to the expedition of the works should be borne by the participant .The festival Office will assume to return the Betacam and Professional copies, 2 months at the latest after the festival is over.
  • On all the packages Entrants should be indicated it s for cultural purpose to enter in the festival only and has no commercial value”.
  • Upon agreement of the participant the film will stay in the archive as a record of the festival.
  • The governmental and private producers who want their films to be entered in the various parts of the festival should complete the application form and send it along with a copy of the film ,director s picture ,poster ,brochure ,film slides ,director s biography and other necessary information to the Festival Office not later than Dec,15th,2008.
  • The institutions or organizations willing to offer awards for the films in the competition section should notify the festival office 30days prior to the beginning of the festival.
  • Decision to resolve any ambiguity resulting from the content of the rules and regulations or unexpected events would be made by the festival director.
  • The signature of the entry form is regarded as full acceptance of the festival.
